Learning something I can learn in no other way
To read my story, you MUST click first on “Into the Whirlwind” (about my diagnosis & exile from Normalsville) and then go to “Setting the Stage” chemo?) I am currently updating Section 9 in which I go from fab to . . . BALD + FAB.
This is just the intro page for people who don’t know why I’m not supposed to get CANCER.
I just got my life all perfect . . . I finished my PhD in 2007 and taught American History for a few years after grad school, but took a job writing grants for an environmental engineering firm to pay the bills. I bought a lovely house in a neighborhood I call “Pleasantville”
and I finally found my Prince Charming. I’d gone to meet his mum & dad in England and had decided to keep each other forever . . .
I’d elected to have a hysterectomy in March 2010 because some pre-cancerous HPV lesions refused to clear — even after clean cone biopsies — and I made what I thought was a tough decision to be PRO ACTIVE about mitigating any cancer risk. And 6 weeks later, I found a lump in my breast which is malignant. I’d never ONCE thought I’d get breast cancer: I was chose to be totally unaware that my grandmother was currently battling it, and I’d breastfed for FOUR YEARS — not because I’m militant breastfeeder, but to MITIGATE any cancer risk! I eat right (mostly) & exercize 5 – 7 days a week & had maintained a 20 pound weight loss for 18 months thus far. Sheesh.
My children are 13, 11 & 6 and I want them to know that I will fight this thing — to the death (preferably its death) — for them.

You make me cry and then you make me laugh. Guess the hysterics are contagious. Again, anything I can do, though I suspect you are not one to call and ask often, like me. I am always willing to take the kids, even teenage boys.
I’m here! Only briefly.. have to run out, get my haircut before Adam leaves in less than 2 hrs for a business trip… I will return ASAP! Luv U

Mark Twain is your favorite American? I thought *I* was your favorite American! (just kidding)… wanted to check in on you postop, see how you’re doing. Let me know if I can do anything for you. The banana bread was awesome, and the gift tag sent me into fits of giggles. You rock, sister.
Okay sunshine, unfurl your SUPERWOMAN cape, it’s Game On, and I know you are going to WIN!! You “da Bomb Diggity” woman!
Peace, Love, & Zumba BABY!

You made me laugh, Leslie. What a nice gift! Thank you!
Although we have never met, John has told me so much about you. I can only say how amazing I think you are. You will beat this with a lot of positive thoughts and the support of all your friends and family, and of course the love of a good man (yes John, thats you!). xxx
Dear Outrageously Beautiful Person Whom I Love,
THANK GOD, to finally hear from you! The gilt decoration on your Chanukah card is getting a little worn, because I didn’t know where to send it. Knew second-hand that you and Avram were no longer doing the Florida thing and thought you were probably a Rabbi by now. I too found the love of my life (he came to repair the brick in our old fireplace) and we moved to a tiny cabin in the Blue Ridge Mountains with a superb view of the New River. I want to hear more, soon as you can! Love & prayers, Kyle
